Sarah and I met Bill and his music group. They meet on Fridays, usually every other week, to, as Bill put it, "play music and have a cup of tea"! Seemed like the perfect ending to a long and tiring week.
Humour took over very quickly. The Secret Gallery in Newent is where the group rehearses and it's also a wonderful space for yoga, relaxation and fabulous art exhibitions (also an Art competition which is currently underway).
Playing through Ivor Novello, Eleanor Rigby, old Hollywood and West End hits reminded me of why Animo choose to rehearse and perform the way we do:
abolish rules - there is much absurdity in life to take it seriously;
try something new in every rehearsal- playing unknown music triggers a whole host of good vibes and endorphins;
challenge your mind/body/spirit - performing challenging music will help us enjoy life more;
take chances- there isn't a safety belt in life so, we risk, we fail, we succeed, sometimes in equal measure.
At the end of the evening Sarah pointed out that this was the best reminder of why we play music.
Thank you Bill and friends!
