We are ecstatic! This was the email Sarah received on behalf of Animo and one of our 2021 composers, Supriya Nagarajan last Tuesday:
"Thank you for applying for a Residency with Animo and Supriya,[...] I’m thrilled to let you know that we’d like to offer you a Residency as part of Festival of New, between 6th-12th September. "
We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen for this residency. Thank you to Supriya for the concept and for wanting to take our collaboration further.

This is an incredible opportunity for Animo+Supriya to create music away from outside intrusions, immersed in this incredible location/space/landscape, without an end goal; just letting music come out, free from preconceptions or judgment... imagine that... I wonder how far we can go to let our music sound out?
The project: "Animo and Supriya Nagarajan collaborate to create a cross-cultural ensemble. Traditionally influenced by classical techniques from Western and Indian Carnatic Traditions we will transform and expand our musical vocabulary through the use of every resource available to us to extend and explore our capabilities and musicality further[..]
Exploring the [...] uniqueness of our ensemble [...]and drawing on worldwide influences of style, genre and sound we aim to create a new inclusive cross-genre body of work to share with the world."
Next week Supriya and Animo will work together for 3 days at our Home Studio in Gloucestershire. Supriya is making the journey from the North to see us in person and making music in the same room as us. We missed playing with other musicians so much! Collaborating is one of the core Animo values... We hope that the pandemic is now behind us and we can do more of that in the future. Zoom is good but not as good as breathing the same beat at the same time!

After that, the sky is the limit! We are creating a new language and a 'no barriers' approach to performing and composing music. Snape Maltings will give us the time and support to make this concept a reality.
