As time goes on and we are seeing a glimmer of hope that we might be free again to travel, perform live... we know that it's not going to be any time soon - alas! So, we are investing time and technology to ensure that we can start broadcasting full scale concerts from our base at Eden's Hill Studio. We are still planning a collaboration livestream with other instrumentalists but until then, we are celebrating Livestream 3 and preparing for Livestream 4.
Livestream 3 was so special. We performed 'Spiegel im Spiegel' and although we were both quite nervous the piece worked its magic and we just fell into its groove and relaxed into it. This was the first time we performed it and we hope to include it in many more programmes in the future. The sound of the Alto flute is so beautiful and suits the piece so well!
The challenges of playing without a live audience are multiple and after each Livestream we find out something new about us and the way we have to communicate with you, our audience.
We are excited about introducing you to some of the pieces we commissioned last year in Livestream 4! Edmund Jolliffe's Woodpecker is a fun piece to play and plenty challenging! Percussionists out there, avert your eyes when I play the castanets... I am definitely doing it 'my way'!
We've asked Edmund and Helen to record short videos of themselves talking about the pieces which we will include on our Livestream and also place in the Composers area on our website.
We finish with the 'Two pieces for piccolo' written by Helen Walker: 'Get gone' and 'Wildflower'. I will leave Helen to talk through those pieces but for us, it is hugely exciting to perform pieces written specifically with us in mind.
Many thanks to both our composers. We love your work!
Tune in every Tuesday at 12:45 on YouTube. Direct links will be on our Blog/Events and Instagram on the day (I will refresh Blog and Events pages each Tuesday prior to the broadcast).
Livestream 4 can be accessed here.
