Animo duo are back Live-streaming from our Home studio on Tuesday 12th January. Sarah and I are eager to look forward to better times with hope and confidence that there is a life beyond Covid restrictions.
The music industry has changed dramatically since last March. Festivals cancelled, venues shut, bookings postponed. Audiences and performers alike went through a phase of shock but then we started transforming our 'loss' into action. More online streams, newly found 'fans' and more people are listening online than ever before.
Art, Dance, Theatre and Music workshops are thriving online. Music lessons online are oversubscribed (millions take classes worldwide). YouTube has erupted with live-streaming concerts featuring many of the lesser known artists a chance to reach their audience. Musicians, much like Animo, have established their own concert series that are pre-recorded and ticketed both on Facebook and YouTube but also Twitch which was traditionally a gamers interactive live-streaming platform.
Eventbrite, through which we will announce our future online full-scale concerts, has also exploded with an unprecedented number of artists performing online and thousands (even millions) of people watching. What a new world order this is!
Is this sustainable? It is as yet unknown how and when venues will open in the U.K. but, I am guessing, there will be an insurgence of audiences wanting to be part of something real. We need something to heal all this fear, uncertainty and loss.
This is what most of our music world looks like at the moment; we are 'masked' musicians. This simply proves that we will do anything if it means playing our music live!
Animo hold fast and steady. Stay hopeful, safe and strong. One day you and us will be in the same room un-masked, free, enjoying glorious music...What joy that would be!
