When Animo put our call out for composers to write music for our October launch, we had no idea that we would have so many composers from all over the world contacting us! We are grateful to 'Composition Today' who picked up our ad and posted it on their website.
We've had so many extraordinary and diverse composers who contacted us after they viewed our website with kind comments about our duo and an enthusiasm that I hadn't shared with other musicians for a while. Thanks Iteracy for the fab website and Adam for the wonderful recordings!
That raw, joyous, open-minded energy to do everything, to conquer obstacles and experience new ideas, to lose yourself in a mindset, to create without a 'road-map' or restraints... we want to share those ideals with fellow musicians.
So, we are now in the fortunate position to start our 'new music' project commissions in November 2019 with the view of continuing this for the next 5 years. At the moment, the idea is to announce our composers with a short bio and samples of their work each year. I will, no doubt, continue to report on this blog and Sarah will continue to post snippets on social media.
At the core of our 'new music' project is the desire to share our journey with as many young people as possible and so we are going to try and get funding that will allow us to visit primary, secondary and College classrooms to share all this amazing music with people of all ages at no cost to them. We are excited!
Animo want as many people as possible to embrace contemporary music and enjoy it for what it is: gutsy, passionate, raw, lyrical, atmospheric, epic, soaring, surprising, innovative but always human. It relates to us as we experience the world in the moment.
It's just a case of finding a connection. Just like our composers found us:)
