A few of evenings ago I was practising in my studio, it was quiet all around me and I was at the end of my practice for the day. All day I was a bit distracted, a bit anxious about the upcoming recording sessions, the piano was ringing beautifully in the studio and I was too tired to continue heavy practice so I decided to do a short recording of the beginnings of some of the pieces Sarah and I would be working on this week. Just a short video. A behind the scenes COVID lockdown-style recording. I shared it with Sarah as a way of saying 'hey, this is happening and we can do it'.
I have been playing with the idea of 'beginnings' in my head. Recording the video cheered me up and helped cast aside the doubting voices (any artist will tell you about those!).
They are fragments of much bigger ideas and works by James Rae, Edmund Jolliffe and Daniel Dorff. Playing their music and imagining the expanse of their creativity and setting the scene for what is to follow, feels like the beginnings of a new world. The beginning of something beautiful in nature, something inspiring for us, a new beginning for Animo.
So, this is just a fragment of a beginning:)
