This concert at the Courtyard Cafe in Sheffield will be a fabulous opportunity for Animo to introduce ourselves to a new audience. We are so excited that Lynne Robertson invited us to perform on the 7th November 2021 with guest artist a firm favourite for Lynne's crowd, the wonderful Julian Jones.
Last July in our Livestream from Coach House Pianos, we performed the second movement of Julian's Sonatina. This time we will perform the entire Sonatina. It's fascinating how Julian is able to bring together all styles in such a rich and fun way. Julian is a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter and a wonderful artist whose album is available online but also from his Facebook page as a hard copy.
We will also be performing some new works from an album called 'Classic Capers' which is all the famous classical works arranged in the Jazz/Swing style by Chris Lawry and Keri Degg two fantastic musicians who write so idiomatically for flute and piano (i.e. they know what they are doing!). Firm favourites like 'Fur Elise', 'The ride of the Valkyries', 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' and more... it's going to be so much fun! There are arrangements for all woodwind instruments!
In the mix are a couple of pieces that were just written for us, some of our own favourites but also a few moments of playing for Julian's band (can't wait!). We've also just received Martin Bill's new pieces which are doing the opposite of what 'Classic Capers' are doing. Martin has taken a very famous song 'Somebody to Love' and turned it into a hugely enjoyable piece in the Classical style - magic!
We were thrilled that Simon Peberdy a composer, arranger, piano tune gave us two of his most recent pieces to perform. Thank you Simon for trusting us with your Sonatina and 'The Corona Suite'. It made me smile to see what titles Simon has given to each of the movements of his Corona suite: Lockdown, Self Isolation Blues, Key Workers Calypso, Coughing at the Stars, Corona Parade. Well, there is still hope and laughter in all of us!
We are looking forward to performing in Sheffield and closer to the time we will post a few videos from the music we will be performing on social media.
Oh, there is so much music that we can and will play in the coming months! We would love to play at a gig near you.
